String Theory

String Theory is a collaborative ensemble of musicians and performers that utilize invented instruments and sonic sculpture to create their unique performance landscape and sonic footprint. They are well known for their large-scale performance installations that transform environments and architecture into giant musical instruments. Integrating choreography and movement into playing the invented long-string harps plays a large role in the success of the live performances.

String Theory was formed in 2002 by founding members Holly Rothschild, Luke Rothschild and Joseph Harvey. Combining choreography and imagist theatre with giant scale architectural long string Harp installations and original music, String Theory has created a completely new form of performance experience. The three founders are joined by fifteen other multi-talented and creative musicians and dancers, culminating in a stable of performers and performance installation options that can be tailored to fit perfectly for any specific event or performance requirements. Below is an example of selected past performances:  String Theory performed at The 48th Annual Official Grammy Celebration, opening for Earth, Wind and Fire. Following a performance on Grand Cayman Island, Sheryl Crow told her audience that String Theory was the best opening act she had ever had. String Theory transformed the Walt Disney Concert Hall into a gigantic instrument for the opening festivities of the Frank Gehry designed masterpiece in Los Angeles. Other Performances Include: VivoCity in Singapore, The Natural History Museum in NYC, The Grand Opening of The Segerstrom Concert Hall O.C., MOCA L.A., Taste 3 in Napa, The Hammerstein Ballroom NYC, as well as opening for Jewel, Rod Stewart, Sheryl Crow and Donna Summer among others.  Besides creating unique and compelling installation environments and amazing performances, String Theory also writes original music and scores for feature films, documentaries and television. Lead by composer Luke Rothschild in collaboration with Holly Rothschild and Joseph Harvey, String Theory consistently creates stunning music for picture. Combining a non-traditional approach to composition with invented and traditional instrumentation, String Theory composes and produces a wide breadth of musical styles.
